S Africa Mission Trip

Our trip to South Africa in June/July 2006 was a tremendous success.  You can view some of the highlights of the trip from the video links below. Further down is a letter from Dr. Helen Laib (who hosted the trip), with statistics and a report of the success of the mission.

The Wheelbarrow Lady - A miraculous healing of a lady that came to the medical clinic with a reported broken back. She was unable to move and was in excruciating pain. David taught her the Word and then prayed for her.

The Convent - The miraculous healing of the Wheelbarrow Lady along with 25 other documented healings opened the door to the Convent which was hosting the mission.  After four days of David's teaching they all received the baptism of the Holy Spirit.

Geneses Care Center - A hospice for HIV positive patients in the last stages of life. Most of the people pictured in this video have already died. One lady featured in the video died two hours after our visit. Our mission there was to bring the message of salvation to those who were unsaved and hope of the life to come for those who were saved.  David is planning to return to South Africa and wants to spend enough time to train people how to pray and receive the miracle power of God to stop this killing disease that is taking 4,000 lives a day in the southern half of Africa alone.

Dr. Helen Laib and Circle of Love Foundation hosted David on this trip to get training on how to pray for the sick more effectively.  Below is an excerpt from Dr. Laib's letter to her partners on the statistics and success of the trip.

Haunting, large dark eyes peered out of gaunt faces.  They were hopeless eyes that knew their days on earth were numbered.  Soon they would flit away like so many had before them. It was a cold but bright winter day in Port Shepstone, South Africa.  The long room was bright and clean and contained a row of 20 beds.  Underneath the blankets, frail bodies huddled against the cold, grateful for the gift of an extra blanket, toothbrush and lotion.  We were visiting the Genesis Project, a hospice for HIV positive patients.  For many on our team, it was their first disturbing encounter with someone dying of AIDS . For others, it was all too familiar.  As we talked with and prayed for each one, our love was communicated.  One patient, Princess, died later that night.

Our medical outreach started in Assisi.  The surrounding community was 80% HIV +.  The community was named after the convent of the Daughters of St. Francis of Assisi where our actual outreach was held.  This convent was a retirement home for retired nuns and also housed a home based care unit and sheltered about 25 AIDS orphans.  Over the course of 5 days, we saw 740 patients, 286 of these received reading glasses.  147 received Jesus as their Savior. 74 indicated they would welcome a pastoral visit to hear more about Jesus.  252 were already Christians and 118 weren't interested.

On the second day, a lady in severe pain was brought to clinic in a wheelbarrow.  She had been shoved during a domestic quarrel and had fallen and hurt her back.  Her pain was so severe, she could not stand or walk.  Dave Martin was on our team, an evangelist and teacher with healing gifts.  He prayed with her for some time and her pain was abated such that she could walk home.

Dave was also responsible for 25 more documented instances of miraculous healing after prayer occurred.  Most were related to pain but several were recovery of eyesight and hearing. A man with blurry vision was able to read the Bible after prayer.  This opened the door for Dave to hold some teaching sessions with the nuns.  On the last day, he taught about the infilling of the Holy Spirit.  About 35 nuns received the infilling of the Holy Spirit with evidence of speaking in tongues.  Dave then taught them to sing in tongues.  A favorite memory will always be the beautiful harmony of their singing and the glowing look of love on their faces. Some remarkable ministry also took place among the team members.
